Here is a chronology of events, relating to defense of the dollar:

• 200011  Saddam Hussein starts selling oil for euros instead of dollars
• 2001 Venezuela’s ambassador to Russia spoke of Venezuela switching to the Euro for all their oil sales. Within a year there was a coup attempt against Chavez, reportedly with assistance from our CIA.  [I didn't say this: a US congressperson did!]
  
• 20030320  America attacks Iraq.
• 20030501  Bush: Mission Accomplished. (The White House said on October 29, 2003 that it had helped with the production of a 'Mission Accomplished' banner as a backdrop for President George W. Bush's speech onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln to declare combat operations over in Iraq. • 20030610 Iraqi oil sales are again in dollars.  This mission was, in fact, accomplished!
• 2003summer  Iran starts requiring payments in euros for its European and Asian/ACU exports.
• 20060320  Iran opens its Oil Bourse
• 200603 Syria shifts from Dollars to Euros for international settlements.
  
• 2006? 2007?  America attacks Iran.  Via Israel?
